In our previous discussion, we explored the birth of the MGH™ framework and how reclaiming the present moment is essential for a high-quality life. Today, we delve deeper into the very soil from which all growth begins: Awareness. Without awareness, even the most sincere practices lose their depth. But with awareness, every moment becomes alive, every breath becomes meaningful, and every action carries a new sense of clarity.
In my own reflections, I have found that awareness is not a skill to be achieved through aggressive striving, but something to be remembered. It is a natural state already within us, waiting to be noticed. When we are truly aware, we see life as it is, not as we imagine or fear it to be. We begin to notice the small details, the subtle shifts, and the quiet truths that usually pass us by in the "whirlwind" of a busy career. This is a central theme in my forthcoming book, "Living the MGH Way: With Mindfulness, Gratitude and Happiness."
The Foundation of the Triple Pillar
Awareness is the bedrock upon which the three pillars of the MGH™ way are built. It is the foundation of Mindfulness, as to be mindful is simply to live with an acute awareness of the present. It is also the foundation of Gratitude, for it is only when we are aware that we can recognize the abundance that surrounds us.
Finally, awareness is the foundation of Happiness. In the world of Humanology, we understand that happiness arises naturally when we are "awake" to life, free from the illusions and distortions created by the ego. True happiness blossoms when lived with a Genuity of Involvement. This guiding principle reminds us that happiness is not a passive state; it flows when our presence is wholehearted, authentic, and "Sattvic" in every situation.
Philosophers and teachers across time have reminded us of this truth. Osho spoke of awareness as the key to transformation, describing it as the light that dissolves darkness. I have found this to be profoundly true in my own life. Whenever I drift into distraction or lose myself in the "Rajasic" energy of worry, awareness is the force that brings me back and restores my balance.
Cultivating the Garden of Presence
Cultivating awareness does not require complex rituals or a departure from your social ecosystem. It begins with simple, intentional acts: noticing the rhythm of your breath, listening fully to a friend, or observing your surroundings without judgment. Each act of awareness is a seed. With practice, these seeds grow into a "Garden of Presence."
This process is significantly strengthened when supported by the SBOP Living® Toolkit, which turns simple noticing into a consistent daily practice. The Toolkit helps us move beyond seeing awareness as an abstract idea and instead treats it as a rhythm woven into ordinary life.
Awareness also asks for a high degree of honesty. It invites us to see ourselves clearly, without the "Professional Armour," masks, or pretences of our past titles. While this can be uncomfortable at first, it is ultimately liberating. To be aware is to accept life exactly as it is, and to accept ourselves as we are. From this state of acceptance, true change becomes possible.
Everyday Illustrations of Awareness
To understand how awareness changes the "Interpersonal Harmony" of our lives, consider these two illustrations:
The Sales Head’s Moment of Awareness: Mohan, a successful sales head, used to rush through his morning meetings, focused entirely on achieving targets and metrics. One day, he noticed Namita, a member of his team, sitting quietly and struggling to hold back tears. Instead of continuing his "Rajasic" drive, he paused, walked over, and simply listened. That moment of awareness revealed Namita’s severe difficulty at home. By simply noticing and being present, Mohan offered a level of Warmth and support that transformed Namita’s trust in him and the energy of the entire team.
A Personal Reflection: Awareness Restores Balance: In my own life, I have often found myself drifting into worry about the future. Timelines, responsibilities, and expectations would cloud my mental "RAM." Yet, whenever I paused to ask myself a simple question: "Can I handle it? If yes, why worry? And if I cannot, then again why worry?" awareness dissolved the fog. I felt my shoulders relax and my breath deepen. Balance became a felt experience in my body. I realized that life was not as overwhelming as my thoughts made it seem. Awareness reminded me that clarity and peace are always within reach.
Your Reflection & Action Points
- Identify the Drift: In what specific moments of your day do you notice yourself drifting into distraction or digital noise? How can a single, sincere intent of awareness gently bring you back?
- The Detail Audit: What small details or quiet truths have you overlooked in your home or your neighborhood recently? How might noticing them change your perspective on your current "Second Innings"?
- Practice Simple Acts: How does practicing awareness in a simple act, such as drinking your morning tea or listening to the wind, shift the quality of your experience?
- Unmasking the Truth: When you look at yourself honestly today, without your past professional title, what truths emerge about who you are at your core?
- The Garden Growth: How can you use the SBOP Living® Toolkit today to turn a moment of "noticing" into a permanent habit of presence?
Awareness is the root; mindfulness, gratitude, and happiness are its blossoms. For when awareness is present, life itself becomes the teacher, and every moment becomes a doorway to joy.
Your golden moments of "Golden Retirement" are happening right now, in this very second. Do not allow a digital notification to steal the presence required to live them magnificently.
